Getting To & Around Liverpool

The nearest airports are:

Liverpool John Lennon Airport: serving flights from UK and EU destinations.

Manchester International Airport: if you are flying from outside of either, it is recommended to check flights to Manchester Airport, which has a 1-hour express train connection to Liverpool straight from where you land.

London (All Airports): is around 3-5 hours away from Liverpool. Add London to your flight search If you are planning on stopping by the capital city.

The best way to travel to Liverpool from within England is by train. Liverpool Lime Street Station has got direct connection to many major cities in the UK like London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, etc. And with a connection in London on the Eurostar, you can easily get to many European major cities like Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam. Consider getting a railcard if you are eligible to get a 1/3 discount on all train fares within the UK.

The two most frequent ferry routes connect Liverpool to Belfast, Ireland and Douglas, Isle of Man

Stena Line: a good option for those who want to travel in their own car from Ireland. Foot passengers and pets are also welcomed on this ferry. You will arrive into Birkenhead across the Mersey river from Liverpool City Centre and would need to cross a short tunnel under the river to get to Liverpool, or get the local metro from Birkenhead Hamilton Square Station. This route is 6-hour long each way.

Steam Packet: Isle of Man is a great island holiday destination in the summertime with fantastic nature walks, beach escapes and family friendly activities. This route is 3-hour long, departs from Liverpool near James Street Station.

Our local metro / train system is called Merseyrail, which is a very convenient way to get around Liverpool City Region and further afield towards Chester. There are two lines, Northern Line which connects Liverpool and the Wirral Line connecting to Wirral, Ellesmere Port and Chester. These main city centre stations are connected in a loop and they are a short 5-10 minute walk away from each other:

Our wedding venue Sefton Park Palm House is a 15 minute walk away from the St Michaels stop on the Northern Line.

UK Visit Visa

This section is for our international friends and family, please check visa requirements linked below before planning your travels to the UK. From 2025, US, Canadian, Mexican nationals will need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to visit the UK for tourism. This should be done online and at least a week prior to your departure. For those with a Russian or Vietnamese passport, you will need to apply for a UK Visit Visa which will grant you a 6-month stay in the UK for tourism purposes.
